He opened the nursery door, expecting nothing more than a calm night and a sleeping child. But what he saw made the blood in his veins run cold.
A scream tore through the silence of the quiet suburban house.
“You’ll pay for this!”
His mother had her hands tangled in his young wife’s hair, dragging her down, slamming her head against the wooden crib. Again. And again. His wife, already exhausted from weeks of sleepless nights, could barely fight back.
Inside the crib, the baby wailed in terror, small hands reaching up from beneath a star-patterned blanket, as if searching for someone — anyone — to make the noise stop.
For a moment, he simply stood there. A tall man with broad shoulders, frozen in the doorway, unable to process the scene unfolding in front of him.
Tears of pure shock rolled down his reddened cheeks.
Then something in him shifted.
The shock burned away, replaced by a blind, protective fury he had never felt before — something ancient and instinctive, rising up from somewhere deep inside him.
He moved.
Crossing the room in a single powerful motion, he grabbed his mother and shoved her back with the full weight of his body. She stumbled and crashed into the heavy mahogany cabinet, the impact rattling its glass doors.
Behind him, his wife collapsed to the floor, sobbing, her whole body shaking uncontrollably from shock and pain.
He didn’t look back at her yet. Instead, he planted himself firmly between the crib and the woman who had raised him — a wall of a man, standing guard over the last piece of his family still intact.
His chest heaved with every breath. His jaw was clenched so tight it ached. His eyes, once soft, now burned with a rage that silenced the entire room.
He pointed toward the door, his voice shaking the walls:
“GET OUT!”
